Organ Donors Go Epidemic

Someone give these boys an enema before they massacre the dance floor this Friday in the POD. Brothers Scott and Matt have been on a surgical rampage for years carving up dance floors with a sound which sits somewhere between trance hardstyle and anything that gets you sweating.

These guys aren't your standard DJs, schooled in the old ways cutting scratching and turbtabling and with a little something they call Dex n FX which blurs the barriers between live performance and mixing. You definetly won't be flatlining as they guys perform some drastic audio surgery.

Their latest album Old Skool Autopsy revives some the best tracks of the last 20 years with more energy than 10,000 volts. With some Moby, Massive Attack, Baby D and the Mario Bros.

Gatecrasher goes Supersonic with David Forbes

When you think of Scotland you think kilts, haggis, scotch and incoherent accents but the great highlands also have given us David Forbes aka one piece of PUBLIC DOMAIN. The scotsman is notoriously good producer of all things EDM get plays from the likes of Tiesto, Armin and PVD and his tracks getting signed to Spinnin, Armada, Full Tiltin and Australia’s Freefall.

But all of this is just a day's work for David Forbes as his other passion is getting behind the decks and dropping more big beats than an elephant heart. Catch him this Friday @ Family with the Gatecrasher Supersonic tour backed up by Dr Willis & RE-WARD.

TyDi getting some deserved airtime!

Tiesto: The Godfather Moving On?

The rumours have been circulating but it's true. Tiesto, largely regarded as being responsible for the spreading of trance and EDM to mainstream audiences, has gone left of centre with his pop/indie rock project. Some saw the signs as his remixes were of acts like: Tegan & Sara, Calvin Harris, Sneaky Sound System, Bloc Party, Nelly Furtado & stacks more. Does this spell the end or is this just further proof of Tiesto's enormous ability to create amazing music, apparently in any genre...?
In the mean time check out the track listing and if anything raises an eyebrow get onto myspace or youtube!

Kaleidoscope Tracklist:

01 Kaleidoscope [ft. Jónsi]
02 Escape Me [ft. CC Sheffield]
03 You Are My Diamond [ft. Kianna]
04 I Will Be Here [ft. Sneaky Sound System]
05 I Am Strong [ft. Priscilla Ahn]
06 Here on Earth [ft. Cary Brothers]
07 Always Near
08 It’s Not the Things You Say [ft. Kele Okereke]
09 Fresh Fruit
10 Century [ft. Calvin Harris]
11 Feel It in My Bones [ft. Tegan and Sara]
12 Who Wants to Be Alone [ft. Nelly Furtado]
13 LA Ride
14 Bend It Like You Don’t Care
15 Knock You Out [ft. Emily Haines]
16 Louder Than Boom
17 Surrounded by Light

Gatecrashers aren't all bad: Re-Ward

Few can claim such a rapid ascension to fame as Wardt aka Re-Ward. From humble beginnings in the pleasant dutch countryside not far from Tiesto's hometown, he dreamed of becoming a big dj like Tiesto and making music for the masses ironically enough at 18 this wonder had his tracks Ensure/Exposé signed to Tiesto's label Black Hole recordings. In a few short years he's churned out more remixes and productions than you can count across toes and fingers and has been signed with Doorn & Armada. These days he's quickly climbing the ranks and is touring alongside his idols. Catch him on the epic Supersonic tour for Gatecrasher alongside David Forbes & our own Dr Willis.

Nino Brown takes over Family's Lounge

Australia's Number One DJ, Nino Brown, is conquering the music world. Widely regarded, and respected as a true master of the turntable, with numerous accolades planted firmly under his belt, this hip-hop star continues to prove that he’s earned his place in the ranks of Australia’s finest DJs and radio personalities. Over the past fifteen years he has entertained the listening masses across four continents, but with special detail at home in Australia. He has a loyal fan base and travels interstate weekly to satisfy the demand. His phenomenal live shows pull in up to 3,000 punters per week.

The national urban community has expressed their respect for Brown by voting him the Best DJ at the 2006 and 2007 Urban Music Awards, as well as nominating him for the Best Radio Show twice, the first time after only four months on air. Brown made Australian Hip-Hop history in 2002, by becoming the first Hip-Hop DJ to sign to a major record label, his achievements impress with his Blazin' series selling in excess of a quarter of a million copies. Blazin 5 soared to number one with platinum success, Blazin 2007 is certified gold, and Blazin 2008 is set to be the biggest yet.

Whether you love him for his performances, DJ skills, radio show, or just appreciate a true master of the turntable, it cannot be denied that Brown is already a legend in the music industry. His professionalism and skill behind the wheels of steel is unmatchable and his diligent and quality work continues to astonish everyone who crosses his path.

Ministry Trance Nation - with our Tydi!

While other genres may come and go trance will always be around - it's a stayer, a movement, an integral part of the electronic music scene. There's something dreamy and intense about trance - the melodies, the aural landscapes - that capture the imagination in a completely unique way. Thus, the Trance Nation release is one that MoS hopes excites you as much as it excites us.

2008/09 has been a massive year for Tydi, it would seem the world loves him almost as much as we do! In addition to being named #1 in Australia in 2008 by the ITM Top 50 poll, a stellar performance at Melbourne's Sensation, a mainstage set at Holland's Trance Energy and a solo album release 'Look Closer' with its first single 'Foolish' getting massive airplay across the country. The sky is the absolute limit for our Tydi as he releases MoS Trance Nation across the country.

KCB bringing you the Wild Weekends!

They call him KCB! He’s not a drug, but he is addictive. Few people have established themselves as quickly as KCB. He’s featured on 8/10 of Wild Weekends CD’s and has become the icon of the series, not to mention hosting his own show on Sydney Radio. Few DJ’s can boast featuring on as many albums and producing as many megamixes as him which probably got him signed to DINKY, All Around The World, Central Station Records, Y2L and MASIF. In the works is KCB Floorfillas and blend of high energy megamixes and a more hypnotic mix of euphoric trance but it’ll be only a taste of what you’ll hear this Friday @ Family.

Our Very Own: Dynasty

Simon Backhouse is one of the newest recruits in the Friday @ Family team, but all that means is you can expect a lot more surprises from him. Growing up he was drawn to the powerful transformational effect of Trance on an individual and knew he had to be apart of it. Dynasty also has big ambitions for Sydney and Melbourne and a few productions with some cool techy rhythms and uplifting leads and pads! We shot him a few q's:

What is the key to making a killer set?
A killer set needs 3 things. A set of decks, an enthusiastic and open minded crowd and someone who knows how to use the two to be explosive. I am a huge fan of going into a gig with absolutely no idea what I am going to play - I take requests through the movement of the crowd.

What is the sound of Dynasty, what sets you apart?
The sound of DYNASTY? Tough question. With a background of harder dance and a preference of techy uplifting trance I guess my ability to twist the two together and really put on a performance is what I like to do best. I guess the part that sets me aside is the way i interact with the people in front

A gift from Hellraiser

Here are Hellraiser's last words...

"It's been a while! Sorry about that, studio work has been calling!

Here is a message to everyone who attended any of the Pharmacy events over the years and supported me over the era too -

Thank you to everyone who has supported me at Pharmacy & left all the wicked comments on my page! As a sign of my appreciation, I have uploaded the FIRST EVER Pharmacy CD for you to download for free! It was made and mixed in September 2001 for very early Pharmacy promotion and there was only about 100 copies made! My gift to you -

http://www.sendspace.com/file/348dkx

Yours filthfully,
Hellraiser 2009"

DJ Kutski ‘the cutter’.

He cuts, he chops, he scratches but he’s no killer, though he will assault your ears. Kutski is a little different than other DJs as he’s all about the old school stylings. Big presence, big beats and using the decks as an instrument itself not to mention he lives on a strict diet of vinyl. Expect some breaks, hard dance, hard trance, hard style, big vocals and lots of mojo.

Monday, May 18, 2009

Here lies Derb

He's crazy, he's German and if you've been to any hard dance events you would AT LEAST know his self-titled hit DERB-DERB. Other hits include The Second Trip, The Sound Of Rock, Derb, In Africa plus massive remixes including the dark odyssey Angel of Death, and who could ignore the seminal Derb remix of Trance and Acid!

XDream Australia's Princess of Hard Dance

XDream was once Jaimelee, a humble dancer/choreographer but in time the music got to her, become something more and so she took to the decks to understand this driving force. Now she tours the country playing at every Hard Dance event you can think of, and has residencies scattered all across the country including Sublime, Sydney's biggest night out. She's also mastered the art of producing with several tracks in the making that you might get a preview on Friday.

Check her out this Friday @ Family with Steve Hill for a MASIF night of Hard Dance Bootlegs

Farewell Pharmacy, Hello Frank

If you remember anything from the last Pharmacy, some of us didn't, you will remember the epic set that was Frank Ellrich. Renound for his acidic style which burns into your memory with hits like Acid Nightmare and Acid Save Your Sould. He's finally back to rock out and he's been a busy bee since last gracing our decks. He's been touring constantly and pumping out new releases including a sweet track with Patrick Plaice called Sticky Tape.
Together with Hellraiser, Derb, Mr Sam and Kutski Pharmacy's last impression should be the best.

So keep 29th May clear and send off Pharmacy

Friday @ Family will not be open for partying on Friday due to Anzac Day.
